HANOI, July 22. At least 17 radical Islamist were killed in fights with government forces of the Philippines. As reported Tuesday, the representative of the Southern Command of the Philippine Armed Forces, Colonel Dickson Hermoso, in the last two days, army units repulsed several attacks of radical Islamist to their camp in Maguindanao province.
According to the military, which began over the weekend in a confrontation with government forces involved force group “Islamic freedom fighters Bangsamoro (Muslim minority native land of the Moro)” (IBSB). Islamists first started the conflict by attacking army base, causing the death of one soldier. At the moment the government troops took the initiative in their own hands and carried out an operation to sweep insurgents from IBSB several areas in Maguindanao province.
IBSB movement split from the largest separatist group in the Philippines with a religious slant – “Moro Islamic Liberation Front” (MILF).
Manila and the MILF administration a few months ago signed a peace agreement, under which the rebels cease resistance in exchange for the creation of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region authorities on the southern island of Mindanao. The parties’ desire to normalize their relations not arranged a series of radical commanders who left the MILF and formed an extremist group – IBSB to continue resistance.
