Iraqi security forces started an operation against militants in Anbar province

Kuwait, July 22. Iraqi security forces today started a major military operation against militant groups “Islamic State” (IG) in Anbar province in the west of the country. As reported by the country’s media, 14 extremists have been killed in an air raid north of the city of Fallujah. Airstrike was struck by one of the buildings of the town cemetery, where the terrorists were hiding.

According to the information received, now fierce fighting is on the outskirts of the locality of El Carmen (20 km east of Fallujah), which was taken over by the radicals about six months ago. Offensive by government forces with air support comes from two fronts – from the north and west.

Meanwhile, in the south of the city of Basra (administrative southern province) extremists attacked a mosque. As the channel “Al-Sumar” reported, militants massacred over the muezzin and abducted four members. The body of one of the abducted were found later near the mosque.
