SYDNEY, 17 September. The Australian Government will provide 7 million Australian dollars ($ 6.4 million) to fight with the epidemic of Ebola disease. This was reported by Minister of Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop.


According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Australia will provide funds of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the international organization “Doctors without Borders”, as well as the British government, which sent its experts to combat with the epidemic in Sierra Leone. Earlier Canberra has earmarked WHO 1 million Australian dollars ($ 0.9 million) for this purpose. Prime Minister Tony Abbott in this regard, said that Australia will continue to closely monitor the situation surrounding the Ebola disease  and is ready to provide additional assistance. “If the situation worsens, we can allocate more money” – quoted Abbott newspaper The West Australian. On Tuesday, the United Nations has asked the donor financial assistance in the amount of $ 1 billion to fight the outbreak of the Ebola disease. The World Bank will provide for this purpose a grant of $ 105 million. Epidemic disease began in the region in December 2013 and has now spread to five countries in West Africa: Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Senegal. UN suggests that the number of cases could reach 20 000 towards the end of the year. Deaths from Ebola disease reaches 90%, but during the current outbreak, it is about 55%. According to WHO, the number of victims of the Ebola disease outbreak approached 2500 people, almost 5000 became infected.
