The Security Council should be reformed, said Bronislaw Komorowski

United Nations, September 26. The UN Security Council was ineffective in the face of the crisis in Ukraine and should be reformed. This opinion was expressed from the rostrum of the UN General Assembly President of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski.

“The Security Council – the body responsible for peace, turned out to be ineffective in the face of conflicts in the Ukraine and other parts of the world,” – he said.

According to the Polish leader, this is “because of the rules of its functioning.”

“Without correction of these rules threatens us further immersion in impotence,” – he added.

“We had hoped that the completion of this section beneficence in Europe and the logic of imperial spheres of influence expanded to include other countries and peoples, that they will be able to decide their own destiny in accordance with the rules of democracy and build their lives in peace and prosperity. Also we were hoping for democratic modernization of Russia “- said Komorowski.

“However, what happened in Eastern Europe six months ago, those hopes crashed and created a threat to the security on our continent of Europe. In our part of Europe, people are once again wondering how long the war as a method of achieving political goals become a reality in Europe. We can not agree on the cruelty and brutality in international affairs, “- he said.

Earlier in New York Komorowski explained to journalists that “Poland is interested running at least a gradual reform of the UN.” According to him, Poland considers it necessary to start an internal debate about the direction of change in the United Nations. “We should be very careful and take into account the interests of the great powers struggle. Poland has an ambition to try to get the non-permanent membership in the Security Council, possibly in 2017-2018 years”, – said the Polish leader. As he said, it may be important in terms of expanding opportunities for the Polish launch of the discussion and the subsequent impact on its direction.
