Haydar al-Abadi said that Iraq had long warned about the threat of the Islamic state  and that it will lead to bloodshed


NEW YORK, September 24. Iraqi Prime Minister Haydar al-Abadi welcomed the collaboration of the United States and Arab allies in the fight with a group of the Islamic State (IG). In an interview with CNN, he expressed the hope that initiated by the US-led military campaign against the Islamic State will lead it to the results that are promised by President Barack Obama to the elimination of the grouping.


“I am glad that now everyone sees this threat, so they (the members of the coalition against the Islamic State) something will take in this regard – said al-Abadi, participating in the work of the 69th session of the UN General Assembly. – I I hope that they will take appropriate measures, and will not solve this problem in their own way. ”


Iraqi Prime Minister said that did not really want to see the appearance after the defeat of the Islamic State in its place some other extremist organizations. He also noted that Iraq had long warned about the threat of the Islamic State and that “it will lead to much bloodshed, if no one can stop.” “But no one listened to us,” – said the politician.


Al-Abadi lamented the fact that the American military still insufficient interact with the Iraqi leadership in the organization of air strikes on the positions of the Islamic State in the country, as well as not properly coordinate their actions with the Iraqi military in the field.


“Our forces are moving forward, and when they do, they need air cover, they need air support, – he said. – This air support while not planned. We ask them about it, but, of course, their coalition their own plans. ”


During the interview, al-Abadi pointed out the necessity of unity of command of “Iraqi military operations” against the IG under state control. He also spoke out against the existence of the country’s various armed groups not controlled by Baghdad. He expressed the wish that the people on the ground themselves fighting for their liberation from the IG militants supported by the government, and not just waiting for the arrival of Iraqi soldiers.


Al-Abadi said that the Iraqi leadership is actively working to build a more representative government, which will include both Shiites and Sunnis. He, in particular, reported that immediately upon his return from New York will offer candidates ministers of defense and interior, one of which is Sunni. The Prime Minister noted that the prosperity of Iraq and even save it as a single state depend on the interaction of Sunnis and Shiites.


“We must work together, we must make concessions, – he said. – And I’m willing to make difficult decisions. Equally, I expect the same from others.”
