On another non-permanent member of the UN Security Council’s claim Spain and Turkey
United Nations, 16 October. Angola, Venezuela, Malaysia and New Zealand has been elected non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for 2015-2016 years. In the elections held in the General Assembly by secret ballot, the four countries gained the required two-thirds majority of those present in the hall of delegates of member countries of the UN.
Angola gained 190 votes, Venezuela – 181, Malaysia – 187, New Zealand – 145.
Still not decided the fate of yet another non-permanent member of the Security Council, which is claimed by just two countries – Spain and Turkey. During the first round of voting, they did not overcome the barrier of 129 votes required for election. In this regard, the Chairman of the 69th session of Sam Kutesa Kahamba announced a second round of elections.
Voting will be repeated until one of the countries do not pick up two-thirds majority. In this case, it is possible that at some stage in the fight can start a new candidate. For example, in 1979 the General Assembly for two and a half months to choose between Colombia and Cuba, while in the 155-th round was not approved a compromise candidate in the person of Mexico.
During today’s vote came two unexpected candidate, inscribed in the bulletin delegates: Republic of the Congo and Brazil. Both countries gained one vote.
New members of the UN Security Council will be replaced by Argentina, Australia, Luxembourg, the Republic of Korea and Rwanda, elected in October 2012.
