Servicemen will prepare regular units of the Iraqi army and act as advisers
SYDNEY, October 20. Australia soon will send its unit to Iraq Special Forces (about 200 people) who will prepare the regular units of the Iraqi army and act as advisors. This was reported by the Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, made a visit to Baghdad last weekend.
“Australia strongly supports the people of Iraq in the fight against Islamic state, – said the minister. – In Baghdad, I finally settled the legal aspects of accommodation units in Iraq, our special forces. ”
These units for several weeks are at the Air Force base in the United Arab Emirates, but because of some legal difficulties they still have them can not relocate to Baghdad.
In late September, Australia sent to the base in the United Arab Emirates 400 airmen and eight aircraft, and on October 3 the government sanctioned their participation in the air strikes on the positions of the forces of extremist groups Islamic state.
Australia’s political leaders emphasize that their country’s military will not be involved in ground combat operations in Iraq.
