Earlier Kiev asked to allocate another € 2 billion in the form of short-term loans

BRUSSELS, Oct. 28. The European Commission (EC) will soon submit to the EU Council and the European Parliament proposals to provide additional financial assistance to Ukraine. This was announced on Tuesday at a press briefing in Brussels spokesman EC Pia Hansen Arenkilde.

“Ukraine is really asked for additional financial assistance. And we are currently holding consultations with the IMF and Ukrainian partners on this issue. I hope that very soon we will present our proposals to the European Parliament and the EU Council,” – she said.

Last week, the European Commission said it had received a request from Kiev to allocate the additional € 2 billion in short-term loans and said it would decide the matter in cooperation with the IMF.

“The European Commission received a request of the Ukrainian authorities on the additional loan of € 2 billion. It will now be seen on the consultation with the IMF and the Ukrainian authorities”, – reported in the EC.

Allocating additional lending in Ukraine is particularly important in the run-up to October 29 next trilateral ministerial meeting of the Russia – Ukraine – EU Gas, which will discuss the problem of repayment of Ukraine to “Gazprom” and the gas supply to Ukraine and its transit EU for the period until the end of March 2015. As reported on the results of the previous meeting in Brussels on 21 October, EU Energy Commissioner Guenther Oettinger, one of the main unresolved issues today remains a source to cover the lack of funds to pay for Russian gas to Ukraine.

The European Commission has previously confirmed that the EU does not object to use the facilities in Kiev under the European macro-financial assistance to Ukraine calculation for gas with Russia. This year, the European Commission has granted Ukraine more than € 1 billion, but the money is already being spent.
