PARIS, October 31st. French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel during a telephone conversation, which they spent Thursday night with the presidents of Russia and Ukraine, have expressed satisfaction with the agreement on the supply of Russian gas to Ukraine. As assured Paris and Berlin, the European Union, along with other Western partners will make every effort to “facilitate the implementation of the agreement.” Hollande and Merkel, in particular, stressed “the importance of the implementation of the Protocol Minsk September 5, 2014 in order to long-term political solution to the current crisis in the east of Ukraine.”


They also believe that the upcoming elections in the territories proclaimed the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republic “have the character and local elections should be held in accordance with the provisions of the Minsk protocol to respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine,” the statement said. Berlin and Paris are also called “fully respect the cease-fire” in Ukraine. To this end, they asked the Russian side to “promote discussion” in the Permanent Council of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), arguing for “the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, in particular the French and German, to support the OSCE observation mission within its mandate.”


Hollande and Merkel also stressed the need to “ensure effective monitoring of the situation on the border between Russia and Ukraine,” said in the Elysee Palace.
