Obama: The international community's efforts to combat Ebola insufficient

WASHINGTON, Oct. 15.The international community should make further efforts to fight the disease, Ebola virus (BVVE).

This opinion was expressed on Tuesday, President Barack Obama met with the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the armed forces, General Martin Dempsey, the United States and his colleagues from two dozen countries of the antiterrorist coalition, attending the meeting in Washington.

“The world as a whole is not doing enough” to stop the epidemic of the deadly disease, said the head of the American administration. According to him, other countries urgently need to increase their assistance to African States to contain the spread of the Ebola virus.

In this regard, Obama said that he intends to call upon the leaders of other major countries to make additional efforts to combat this threat.

“Everyone should do more than make now,” – said the president of the United States. He expressed confidence that the American health care system is strong enough to eliminate the danger BVVE, and therefore the United States epidemic of this disease is not threatened.

According to the World Health Organization, the number of victims of flash BVVE in West Africa has increased to almost 4500 people, and about 9000 are infected. Most of the deaths occurred among the three countries – Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.

American experts believe these figures are underestimated. According to experts of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of infections has not less than 20000 persons and unfavorable developments can achieve 550000 people by the end of January 2015.

Obama administration puts the disease caused by the Ebola virus, in line with such global threats as terrorism. In September, the United States announced that they will allocate to fight BVVE $ 1 billion and send to Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea 4 000 troops, to help them to create a medical infrastructure to assist the victims.
