COPENHAGEN, August 22. Denmark will send weapons to the Iraqi Kurds as an aid in the fight against militants extremist group called “Islamic state.” The decision was taken on Thursday at a meeting of the parliamentary commission for foreign policy.
According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Martin Lidegor in Iraq will be sent transport aircraft “Hercules” with light arms, munitions and war material for the Iraqi government and Kurdish forces in the north of the country, as well as humanitarian aid for displaced persons. The plane will be accompanied with 55 soldiers of the kingdom.
Lidegor stressed that the Danish military action will be limited. “We will make a separate transport operation. We do not aim to F-16 fighter or what Americans call” boots on the ground “(Army),” – he said.
The operation was supported by all political parties except the left “red-green” alliance. It is expected that the recommendation of the Commission, the Danish Parliament approves on 27 August. “As soon as Parliament gives the green light, the plane will take off,” – said Defense Minister Nicolai Wammen.
