Representative of an environmental organization in an interview with the German newspaper said that the reactors are not “sufficiently protected” from potential projectile
BERLIN, August 30. The fighting, which lead the Ukrainian army and militias in Lugansk and Donetsk regions, jeopardize the safety of nuclear facilities in Ukraine.

Deutsche Allgemeine Zeitung representative of an environmental organization Greenpeace Tobias Myunhmayer.
He recalled that “about 200 kilometers from the front of the fighting” is Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, which reactors are not “sufficiently protected” from potential projectile.
“In this region, used a variety of anti-armor weapons that can penetrate this defense,” – said the expert.
In addition, he said, the potential damage to the power supply within a few hundred kilometers can trigger off the cooling system of the nuclear power plant generators. Whether it have an impact comparable in scale to the disaster at Japan’s “Fukushima-1″, suggested Myunhmayer.
The newspaper also quoted a representative of the German Society for safety control at nuclear power plants (GRS). According to him, at the moment “there is no information that would give cause for particular concern.”
In Ukraine, there are 4 nuclear power plants with 15 generating units. Zaporizhia NPP with 6 units with a total installed capacity of 6000 MW is the largest in Europe.
