KIEV, August 29. President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have discussed the situation on the phone in the Donbas and the steps necessary for a dialogue on the peaceful resolution of the situation. According to the press service of the Ukrainian state.

According to her, Poroshenko urged Merkel to “do everything within the EU and internationally to support the Ukraine.”

Chancellor, in turn, assured of her readiness to support decisive action by the EU at the next European Council meeting to be held on 30 August. In particular, it stated that “the EU should show solidarity with Ukraine.”

In this context, the sides discussed the possibility of treatment Poroshenko at a meeting of the European Council of Heads of State and Government, and agreed to continue intensive dialogue with the purpose of dealing with the situation in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
