PARIS, August 20th. Russia’s insistence to allow humanitarian aid to the war zone in the south-east of Ukraine is true, given the appalling situation of the civilian population. “The humanitarian situation there is dramatic: thousands of dead, the people have nothing to eat, some eat rats, no light, no water … Although there is not enough staff, I must say that the situation is terrible,” – said the French minister, speaking at a hearing of the committee of the National Assembly of France for international affairs and defense.

According to him, the delivery of humanitarian assistance to residents of Donetsk and Lugansk regions – one of the four key issues on the agenda, which was discussed, in particular, in the negotiations of the foreign ministers of Germany, Russia, Ukraine and France on Sunday in Berlin. “It is obvious that such a need exists. However, need to get this carried out under international supervision, – said Fabius. – At the same time, when Russia says it needed humanitarian supplies, she’s right, because the situation is really terrible.”

In addition to humanitarian aid Laurent Fabius also identified as one of the major problems of the issue as soon as possible truce, “which is inseparable from the problem of control the border.”

Also the head of French diplomacy reminded that Paris, for its part, from the beginning of the Ukrainian crisis holds the position of “firmness and dialogue.”
