Parties shall endeavor to establish the negotiation process

PRETORIA, August 25th. President of South Sudan Salva Kiir and the rebel leader, former vice president of the Rijeka Ma’shar signed on Monday in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), the agreement of cessation of the armed conflict in order to establish the negotiation process. This was stated by the representative of an intergovernmental organization of IGAD mediating to resolve the crisis in Southern Sudan.

Peace talks between the warring parties come since the conflict began in December last year, when between loyal Kiir representatives Dinka and rebels Ma’shar of ethnic Nuer fighting broke out. Negotiations are constantly interrupted, and certain agreements reached violated.

During the armed conflict in South Sudan threat of starvation hung over 7 million people, the United Nations is unable to give even approximate figures on the victims, but recognizes that we are talking about thousands of people. About one million were displaced.

9 July 2011 South Sudan officially seceded from Sudan after a long conflict and declared independence. After two and a half years in the youngest country in the world began a new bloodshed.
