BEIRUT, August 18th. Syrian Air Force have inflicted in the past day 26 missile strikes against bases of Sunni extremist organization “Islamic State” (IG) in the city of Raqqa, the administrative center of the homonymous province, on the Euphrates.
Air raids were carried out also on the position of extremists in Tabka, a city near the Euphrates Dam, next to which is a military airfield – the last stronghold of the government forces in the northern Syrian province.
According to eyewitnesses, the bombing killed at least 30 militants, dozens wounded. Among the civilians affected 22 people.
Local commentators have noted that the administrative center of Rakka (520 km from Damascus), who had been captured by militant Islamists in March 2013, for the first time subjected to such a massive raid. At the end of July and beginning of this month, Syrian troops, received the order of command, left the areas of deployment of the 17th Division and the 93rd Armored Brigade in the vicinity of Raqqa.
In the neighboring province of Deir ez-Zor, the Syrian Air Force attacked the IG gangs in El Hoveydzhe and near bridge siyasah.
