Sweden will allocate € 3.8 million for humanitarian assistance to Ukraine

Funds will be used for the purchase of foodstuffs and medicines to eastern Ukraine, as well as rehabilitation of infrastructure


STOCKHOLM, August 21. Sweden will allocate 35 million kroons (3.8 million euros) for the provision of humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. This was stated by Minister for International Development Cooperation Hillevi Engström.


“The situation continues to be serious, it gets worse. It is about two thousand killed. Since April 5 000 persons  were injured, and 150 000 People have been internally displaced persons”, – she told news agency TT.


According to Engstrom, funds will be allocated for the purchase of foodstuffs and medicines to eastern Ukraine, as well as for the restoration of infrastructure in the region.


“We know that 200 000 Residents of Lugansk in early August there is no electricity, no water, no mobile connection. Lack there of all, first of all, food and medicine,” – she said.


The Minister added that in the future Sweden may allocate humanitarian aid to Ukraine additional funds.
